Diamondbacks announce non-roster invitees

PHOENIX -- Camp will be fun for the Diamondbacks during spring training, with 23 non-roster invitees scheduled to join the regulars at Salt River Fields.
Right-handers Aaron Blair, Archie Bradley and Braden Shipley -- who finished last season as three-fifths of the starting rotation at Double-A Mobile -- are among the group that also includes new Cuban signee Yoan Lopez, who agreed to an $8.25 million deal last week.
Former major leagues Blake Beavan, Justin Marks, J.C Ramirez and Dan Runzler are among the 10 non-roster pitchers invited, as are Jake Barrett and Tim Crabbe. Beavan, 26, made 44 starts for Seattle over the last four seasons and spent most of last season in Triple-A. Runzler, a left-hander, made 89 appearances for San Francisco from 2009-12 before spending most of the last two seasons in Triple-A.
Catchers Peter OBrien, Blake Lalli, Jordan Pacheco, Matt Pagnozzi and Mark Thomas will join Tuffy Gosewisch and Oscar Hernandez when pitchers and catchers hold their first workout Feb. 20.
The first full-squad workout is Feb. 25.
Gosewisch and Rule 5 acquisition Oscar Hernandez are the only catchers on the 40-man roster, although general manager Dave Stewart last week said the D-backs are not looking to add to that position after the trade of Miguel Montero. The D-backs have had good reports on O'Brien, Stewart said, and he could be a factor in the 2015 season despite the fact he has not played above Double-A.
Position players Nick Buss, Danny Dorn, Nick Evans, Ben Francisco, Walter Ibarra, Nick Punto, Jamie Romak and Danny Worth also have been invited. Francisco, who has 50 major league home runs in parts of seven seasons, played in the independent Atlantic League last season after playing 21 games with the New York Yankees in 2013.
Punto, added to supply infield depth, spent last season at Oakland, where D-backs manager Chip Hale was the bench coach. Punto was released by the A's after his $2.75 option for 2015 vested. Romak made his major league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 28, 2014, after spending the previous 11 seasons in the minor leagues following his selection in the fourth round of the 2003 draft.

Jordan Pacheco is among seven catchers who will be in big-league camp for the Diamondbacks.
