PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) USA Hockey Arena in suburban Detroit has been chosen to host the 2017 women's hockey world championship.
USA Hockey announced the selection Thursday at a news conference. Eight nations will compete for gold in early April 2017, less than a year before many of the same women will participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.
The U.S. will aim for a third consecutive International Ice Hockey Federation world championship in Kamloops, British Columbia, from March 28 to April 4 of this year.
USA Hockey director of women's hockey Reagan Carey says it is the biggest event women participate in outside of the Olympics.
