ARLINGTON, Texas — Yu Darvish's All-Star fate now rest in the hands as part of the American League Final Five vote.
Darvish, who said Friday he didn't know if he should be an All-Star, seems fine with that as he's not getting too worked up about whether or not he'll be the eighth Texas player selected for the All-Star team.
"That's something that I'm aware that the fans get to vote for the last spot," Darvish said. "There's nothing much I can say on that. I'll just stay quiet and see what happens."
Darvish didn't do anything to hurt his All-Star credentials Sunday night even though he suffered his fifth loss of the season. Darvish (10-5) ran his strikeout total to 117 by matching his season high with 11 strikeouts. He's now matched another All-Star, New York Mets' starter R.A. Dickey, for the most double figure strikeout games in the majors with five.
Fans have until 3 p.m. Thursday to vote online for Darvish, who is competing against Chicago's Jake Peavy, Baltimore's Jason Hammel, Kansas City's Jonathan Broxton and Los Angeles' Ernesto Frieri for the 34th spot on the AL team.
Darvish is just happy to be in that company.
"Just being selected amongst those four guys, they're all good pitchers, so just being among them in an honor," he said.
While Darvish isn't much on promoting himself for a spot, the Rangers are making a push. They have a suite sweepstakes online for fans who vote for Darvish at least 25 times.
Texas manager Ron Washington didn't use one of his picks on Darvish but is confident he can make the team through the fan vote.
"In order to get the guys I feel are All-Stars on there, and Yu is certainly one of them, I just feel like he has a good chance of winning the five-man vote," he said.
