Arkansas Derby winner Danza, the third-place finisher in the Kentucky Derby, will not race in the Belmont Stakes on June 7, the president of the syndcate that owns the horse announced on Tuesday.
Danza was expected to be one of the major hurdles California Chrome faced in his quest to win the Triple Crown.
"Unfortunately this morning (trainer Todd Pletcher) just wasn't totally satisfied with the way the colt looked," Aron Wellman, president of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, said. "It's still preliminary, but as soon as Todd expressed any concern over his condition, we just mutually agreed that we're going to take a step back. He's had two hard races in a very short period of time."
