Dale Jr. buys a Powerball ticket -- and girlfriend Amy disapproves
By all appearances, things are going quite well for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and girlfriend Amy Reimann these days. But like most couples, they are not immune to the occasional disagreement.
Recently asked by radio host Dan Patrick about their more than 3-year-old dating relationship -- and the possibility of Junior popping the question sometime soon -- the third-generation driver said that while he has no plans for an imminent proposal, "we're heading in the right direction."
While Junior has every reason to feel good about his love life, it seems that Amy was less than thrilled, however, when he recently purchased a Powerball ticket while in New York City for his "Road to the Daytona 500" media tour.
Perhaps it's better to let Junior himself explain his girlfriend's reaction after he bought the lottery ticket.
"Amy got mad at me," he said during a press conference on Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway. "She's like, 'What the hell are you buying a Powerball ticket for? You don't need to be winning it.' And I promised her right then I would split half with a charity. So she made me feel pretty bad. I don't know. Everybody else was buying them, and I want to play. I want to have fun. ... We've got a group text with all the guys that work on the farm (at Earnhardt's Cleveland, North Carolina home). We text pictures back and forth of our Powerball tickets to each other. So we have a little fun with that."
So did Junior pick his own numbers or go the computer-generated "Quick Pick" route during his stop in The Big Apple?
"Quick Pick," he said. "Just gimme the ticket. We were talking out of the elevator and there was this little kiosk of all kinds of different stuff and somebody was buying one when we walked by and I said, 'Hey, I'm going to get me one. I don't even know what I'm doing. Just give me the ticket.' When the numbers came, they popped up on my phone and that was pretty convenient. But we didn't win. Actually, I won $12 bucks. I hit the Powerball number. So that gives you something like 12 bucks."
Did Earnhardt try again?
"No, I didn't," he said.
