D-backs to host second annual alumni day

The Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday announced the second annual Alumni Day to be held on Sept. 15 against the San Francisco Giants. For the first time, D-backs fans will get the opportunity to vote on the jersey to be worn by the players during that evening’s game. In addition, the first 20,000 fans will receive a Matt Williams bobblehead, courtesy of Chase.
Fan voting can be found at at dbacks.com/throwback and will last for two weeks, with the final day to vote on Opening Day, April 6. One voter will receive four tickets to Alumni Day as well as a personalized jersey of the winning style, complete with his/her name and number. Fans will choose from four different styles:
-- 1998–2000 Home Jersey (pinstriped jersey with “Diamondbacks” word mark)
-- 1998–2006 Home Alternate Vest (pinstriped vest jersey with left chest “A” logo; purple undershirt)
-- 1998–2002 Alternate Jersey (purple jersey with “Arizona” word mark)
-- 2001–06 Home Jersey (pinstriped jersey with left chest “A” logo)
The bobblehead will feature current D-backs third base coach and five-time All-Star third baseman Matt Williams, a member of the 2001 World Championship team. The four-time Gold Glove Award Winner and Silver Slugger Award Winner was one of baseball’s premier third basemen during his 17-year big league career. In 1999, Williams finished third in league MVP voting.
Among the D-backs’ alumni scheduled to attend are Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley, Williams, Reggie Sanders, Devon White, David Dellucci, Mike Fetters, Greg Swindell, Junior Spivey, Doug Davis and several others. Additional details of the pregame celebration will be released at a later date.
Last season, the D-backs held their inaugural Alumni Day in the form of a 10-year reunion of the 2001 World Championship team. The reunion took place on Sept. 10 and drew a crowd of 47,959.
