Giants 5, Diamondbacks 3

Game recap: Gerardo Parra reminded the Giants of his arm -- and his Hakeem Olajuwon finger wag -- while throwing out runners at first base and third base in the Diamondbacks' 5-3 loss Sunday. Parra threw behind Angel Pagan after his short single to right in the first inning and also nailed Michael Morse attempting to go from first to third to end the Giants' four-run fifth inning, when they took a 4-1 lead.

Hitting notes: Miguel Montero singled in Mark Trumbo to open the D-back's two-run fifth inning, hitting an opposite-field liner to left field after a Trumbo double to right-center. Parra hit a sacrifice fly to medium-depth left field to drive in Montero from third for a 2-1 lead. Mike Jacobs doubled in a run with two outs in the ninth to complete the scoring. Trumbo has an extra-base hit in two straight games after hitting his first homer Saturday.

Pitching notes: Miley threw 61 pitches, the most for a D-backs starter the first time through the rotation, and used all four of his pitches. He gave up only one hard-hit ball, a double to the fence in right-center by Juan Perez. "There at the end, he was really throwing the ball good. He was sharp. I know he's been champing at the bit," manager Kirk Gibson said. ... Brad Ziegler gave up four singles in two-thirds of an inning in the fifth. "He wasn't able to locate his pitches like he usually can," Gibson said. ... David Hernandez pitched a second straight scoreless inning.

Short hops: Archie Bradley is scheduled to start the second split-squad game Monday night against the Rockies after his expected Saturday night start was rained out. "He's a natural power guy. He knows he has to command the zone, but he's got something most guys don't have," Gibson said of Bradley's 99 mph fastball. "I don't want him to think he's some finesse pitcher. He's not." ... Bronson Arroyo and Randall Delgado will start Tuesday, one against the Padres and one in a minor league game on a back field. ... Gibson said he plans to name his starters for the two season-opening games in Australia by the end of the week. ... The D-backs have tentatively set March 13 as a day Cody Ross could make his spring training debut.

End quote: "You can't forget about him out there. That is certainly one of his strengths. He'll be a good weapon for us this year." -- D-backs manager Kirk Gibson on Gerardo Parra's arm.
