HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) Cupid has drawn the 10th post position and been named an early 2-1 favorite for Saturday's $1 million Arkansas Derby, which attracted a field of 12 horses.
The Bob Baffert-trained colt, winner of last month's Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park, is expected to be one of the top contenders at next month's Kentucky Derby. Jockey Martin Garcia rode Cupid in the Rebel Stakes victory and will be on the 3-year-old on Saturday.
Cupid led nearly from wire to wire in the Rebel Stakes, holding off Whitmore and Suddenbreakingnews, and he's currently 11th in the Kentucky Derby qualifying standings with 50 points.
American Pharoah won the 1 1/8-mile Arkansas Derby last year on his way to the Triple Crown.
