Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said last week he expected Nelson Cruz to reject the team's qualifying offer.
Daniels confirmed that was the case Monday morning, as Cruz's representatives informed Daniels that they were saying no to the one-year offer that would have paid Cruz $14.1 million for the 2014 season.
Daniels said that the club still will negotiate with the free-agent outfielder. The qualifying offer guarantees the Rangers draft-pick compensation should Cruz sign with another team.
Cruz, who was suspended for 50 games in 2013 for using PEDs as part of the Biogenesis case, hit .266 with 27 home runs and 76 RBI in just 109 games. He was named to the American League All-Star team for the second time in his career.
