Crash survivor Hatch to delay Michigan career

Michigan basketball recruit Austin Hatch is going to take an extra year before coming to college.
Hatch, who was injured in a 2011 plane crash that killed his father and stepmother, has received the equivalent of a redshirt season from the Indiana High School Athletic Association. He missed a large part of the 2011-12 school year while recovering from his injuries, and did not play basketball.
According to WANE-TV in Indiana, Hatch now intends to enroll at Michigan in the fall of 2014, instead of the original plan of 2013. Hatch said he plans to be on the court this fall at Fort Wayne Canterbury High School.
Michigan coach John Beilein said he will honor Hatch's athletic scholarship whether he is able to play or not.
As a sophomore in the 2010-2011 season, Hatch averaged 23.3 points and 9.3 rebounds a game. He committed to Michigan, only to be involved in the plane crash a few days later.
