If the NHL is looking for a sign that hockey can work in Arizona, how about these: Attendance and television ratings are significantly on the upswing in the lockout-shortened 2013 season.
As reported Wednesday in the Phoenix Business Journal, television ratings on FOX Sports Arizona are up 118 percent over last year, and attendance is up 12 percent in the wake of the team's first Pacific Division crown.
According to our own Brett Hansen, TV ratings are at 0.9, compared with 0.4 a year ago -- that equates to 16,223 households per game -- a huge jump from 7,210. Meanwhile, average attendance is 13,927, up from 12,420.
"Both are great examples of the interest in the team and the support the Coyotes have in Arizona,” Hansen said.
