Cowboys' Spencer probably won't be ready for Rams

Dallas Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones said Monday that it's not unreasonable to think veteran defensive end Anthony Spencer could be back in a couple weeks.
Spencer hasn't played in a year. He suffered a left knee injury last September and has been recovering from the microfracture procedure he had in October.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday that Spencer would participate in some football activities during this week of practice.
Spencer was on the team's physically unable to perform list during training camp but was moved to the active roster last month. Had he remained on the PUP list, Spencer wouldn't have been eligible to return until next month.
"We certainly were optimistic that he would get back sooner than the six weeks and we still feel that way," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM].
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talked Tuesday on The Fan about the impact Spencer could have on Dallas' defensive unit.
"We're excited about him doing football this week," Jerry Jones said. "What that means is pads. What that means is the kind of thing that we had hoped for and he has worked for. He's been very impressive. He feels good, so we'll start working him in football [activities].
"I don't know that he will try to go here against St. Louis, but it's going to be good to have that big guy out there. If he could come back and approach what he can do and has done, if he can come back and approach that, that would probably be about as significant of a thing for our defense that you could think about."
