IRVING, Texas – Two weeks ago, Cowboys officials declared their pursuit of "retired'' six-time Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters "dead,'' a source saying, "It looks like he just doesn't want to play football."
Six days before the 2013 NFL season-opener, there is a different look as the Cowboys' pursuit of the free-agent guard is complete, with Waters being given a one-year deal that with incentives can earn him $3 million.
Waters – away from football for the past year – is expected be ready to play in Week 2. Worth noting: Two years ago, Waters returned to football with the Patriots in early September and started every game all the way to the Super Bowl.
Dallas released special-teamer Eric Frampton to make roster room for Waters.
Waters, 36, has been a summer-long Dallas discussion item along with ex-Jets guard Brandon Moore. Last month, both players declined invitations to join a club with injury woes at the position.
