Cowboys open 2014 season with 49ers, end it with rival Redskins
The Dallas Cowboys' 2014 schedule starts with a bang, has a trip overseas in the middle and ends with a possible division showdown.
Suffice to say, the schedule released by the NFL on Wednesday has plenty to keep things interesing in 2014.
It starts with the season opener on Sept. 7 against San Francisco, one of the league's best and most physical teams. At least the Cowboys can be glad it's a home game, because the next two are on the road at Tennessee and St. Louis.
On Sept. 28, the Saints come to AT&T for a Sunday night game that should draw a lot of attention, as well as New Orleans fans.
Then it's a home gameOct. 5 against in-state rival Houston, followed by a trip to Seattle Oct. 12 to play the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks.
Next comes back-to-back games against NFC East rivals New York and Washington, both at home. Then they play former NFC East rival Arizona.
The highlight in the middle of the season is a Nov. 9 trip to London to play Jacksonville. The long trip to the UK is followed by a much-needed bye week.
The Cowboys will need the rest because they come out of the bye with consecutive games against NFC East rivals New York and Philadelphia. In fact, the Cowboys face the Eagles two times in three weeks - Nov. 27 and Dec. 14 - with a game against the Bears (a Sunday night NFL Network battle) sandwiched in between.
After playing the Colts and Andrew Luck on Dec. 21, the Cowboys finish the season against the rival Redskins on Dec. 28. The Cowboys have made a habit of ending the season with showdown games for playoff berths against NFC East rivals. No reason to think 2014 will be any different.
