Cowboys look to add running back in draft

With Felix Jones no longer on the roster, the Dallas Cowboys need to add depth at running back. Featured back DeMarco Murray has had trouble staying healthy for an entire 16-game season, playing in 13 games as a rookie and 10 last season.

Since the Cowboys drafted Murray in the third round two years ago, the Oklahoma standout has started 17 games.

Asked Tuesday if the Cowboys would be looking at the running back position in this week's draft, team executive vice president Stephen Jones said, "Absolutely."

"If you do look, unfortunately, at DeMarco's history, he had [injuries] at Oklahoma, although he was very productive," Jones told The Blitz on KZDC-AM 1250 in San Antonio. "He's had [injuries] here, so obviously without Felix Jones in the fold right now, we don't have that answer in terms of having a complementary back to DeMarco, so that will be something that we have our eyes on as well."

Murray led the team in carries last season with 161. Felix Jones rushed 111 times, Phillip Tanner added 25 and Lance Dunbar chipped in with 21.

If the Cowboys decide to select a running back in the next few days, one of the following players could be the pick: North Carolina's Giovani Bernard, South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore, Oklahoma State's Joseph Randle, Michigan State's Le'Veon Bell or Arkansas' Knile Davis.
