Cowboys interested in former Baylor receiver?

The Dallas Cowboys will have a representative at former Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon's pro day in Houston on Tuesday, according to a source.

Gordon (6-foot-3, 225 pounds) emerged as one of Robert Griffin III's favorite targets in 2010, but the receiver was suspended indefinitely after an arrest on charges of marijuana possession. He was dismissed from Baylor in August 2011.

Gordon transferred to Utah, but never played for the Utes. The Cowboys have a great relationship with Baylor head coach Art Briles, in part because his daughter works in the club's public relations department. He's visited training camp the past few seasons. One NFC scout told FOXSportsSouthwest.com he wouldn't be surprised if a team used a third-round pick on Gordon in Thursday's supplemental draft.

It's unlikely the Cowboys would spend that high a pick on Gordon, but they certainly need a third receiver to go along with Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. Gordon is extremely athletic and has good hands. But the fact that he excelled for only one season combined with his off-the-field issues could make him a big risk as a second- or third-round choice.

It will be interesting to see whether Griffin III lobbies the Redskins to select Gordon since he knows the receiver so well. Griffin campaigned hard for Briles to give the receiver a second chance after his arrest.
