MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota Vikings rookie Cordarrelle Patterson has set the NFL record for longest kickoff return, a 109-yard touchdown to start the game against Green Bay.

Patterson was as far back as he could be in the end zone when he caught the opening kick from Tim Masthay on Sunday night. He took the ball straight up the middle and slipped through the coverage so fast only one Packers player, Micah Hyde, had a legitimate chance to tackle him.

Three players shared the previous record of 108 yards: Ellis Hobbs for New England in 2007, Randall Cobb for Green Bay in 2011, and Jacoby Jones for Baltimore in 2012.

This was Patterson's second kickoff return touchdown of the season.
