KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Relievers Tim Collins and Louis Coleman avoided salary arbitration Friday, each agreeing to a one-year deal with the Royals.
Collins, a 25-year-old left-hander, signed for $1.475 million. MLB Trade Rumors projected he would have made $1.5 million through arbitration.
Collins made $1,362,500 last season.
Coleman, a 28-year-old right-hander, signed for $725,000 after making $537,000 in 2014. He was projected to make $700,000 through arbitration.
Both pitchers are coming off shaky 2014 seasons.
Collins spent much of the season at Triple-A Omaha, where he had a 2.76 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 23 appearances. With the big-league club, Collins had a 3.86 ERA in 22 appearances with a 1.38 WHIP.
Collins, though, did make four solid appearances in September and was on the Royals' postseason roster.
Coleman had a 5.56 ERA with a 1.68 WHIP with the Royals in 31 appearances.
The Royals still have seven players eligible for arbitration: Greg Holland, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Kelvin Herrera, Danny Duffy, Lorenzo Cain and Jarrod Dyson.
Holland is projected to get $9.3 million in arbitration, while Hosmer is projected at $5.2 million.
The Royals under general manager Dayton Moore have never had a player actually go to arbitration.
