Cody Reed earns Big Sky weekly honor

OGDEN, Utah - Northern Arizona University’s Cody Reed was named the Big Sky Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week following his 11th-place showing at last Saturday morning’s Grand Canyon Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz.
“This is a great recognition for a guy that has worked really hard to get where he’s at right now, and my hat goes off to him,” said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Eric Heins. “In the week leading up to the race he hadn’t really worked out because he was battling a bad cold, so we took him down for an opportunity to run at sea level, and he took advantage of it after waking up feeling good on Saturday. He pushed it pretty hard and ran a great race for us.”
The award is the first for Reed, a redshirt sophomore out of San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, Calif. His time of 25:27.5 narrowly missed the Top-10 at last weekend’s meet, but he still led a crew of five Lumberjacks that competed at Estrella Mountain Regional Park to a seventh-place team finish.
The Lumberjacks are back in action this weekend with the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison, Wisc., their last regular season meet before hosting the Big Sky Conference Championships in Flagstaff on Oct. 27.
