Clumsy cow costs Rangers' Ross in pregame milking contest

ARLINGTON, Texas -- An act of bovine betrayal kept Rangers relief pitcher Robbie Ross Jr. from snapping his losing streak in cow milking contests Saturday.
In a rematch of last year's battle with Indians catcher George Kottaras, Ross was leading late in the contest when his cow kicked over the milk pail.
"Dude, I cannot believe that happened!" Ross said. "I was cruising, too. Maybe next year."
Kottaras said he wouldn't have won without the help from Ross' clumsy cow.
"It wasn't the way I wanted, but I'll take it," Kottaras said.
Ross lost another dairy duel in 2012 in Anaheim, making him 0-3 in cow milking contests.
It was a bad sign for Ross when, right before the contest began, his cow relieved some of its pregame stress. Fortunately, a handler had a shovel at the ready.
The Rangers were more successful in the other pregame contest sponsored by Dairy MAX at Globe Life Park. The team of Scott Baker and Colby Lewis defeated the Indians' Justin Masterson and Corey in a chocolate milk shootout featuring all pitchers.
The chocolate milk shootout consisted of one player shooting a water gun filled with chocolate milk into a pail held by his teammate.
It made for a sticky situation for Lewis when Baker misfired with his chocolate milk gun, but victory was sweet.
