Clippers waive Stephen Jackson after brief tenure

Forward Stephen Jackson's brief tenure with the Clippers ended Tuesday when the team waived the 13-year NBA veteran.

Jackson was signed Dec. 10 after the Clippers were hit by injuries to guard J.J. Redick, forward Matt Barnes and rookie guard Reggie Bullock. But when Barnes returned to the team following surgery for a torn retina, Jackson's minutes curtailed.

Jackson's non-guaranteed contract would have become guaranteed if he was not cut by the end of the day.

The Clippers signed guard Darius Morris on Monday, bringing them to the 15-player limit, but with Redick and Bullock being "€œclose" to returning, according to coach Doc Rivers, they needed to clear at least one roster spot. Bullock is likely to return Friday night when the Clippers play the Lakers.

Morris was signed to a 10-day contract, so his place on the roster is not guaranteed. In fact, he's likely to be cut if Redick, who is rehabbing from a fractured right hand and torn ligament in his right wrist, is ready to return later this month.

Jackson averaged 1.7 points and 1.1 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game. He played in only one of the Clippers' past four games.
