Forward Trey Thompkins was a fixture on the Clippers bench this season, but that was pretty much his problem. He never got off the bench.

The Clippers released Thompkins on Thursday, reducing their roster to 14 players.

Thompkins, a 6-foot-10 forward, was the team’s second-round draft pick out of Georgia in 2011, but he didn’t play in any games this season because of a bone bruise in his left knee. He appeared in 24 games in his rookie season, averaging 2.4 points and one rebound.

In a statement, Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said, “We want to thank Trey for his contribution to the Clippers. Unfortunately, he was never able to truly showcase his talents this season due to injuries. We wish him all the best and believe he has a bright future.”
