CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA selected defender Jimmy Conrad, a UCLA alum and SoCal native with 12 years of MLS experience and 28 caps with the United States National Team, in the MLS Re-Entry Draft held on Wednesday. Per MLS rules, Chivas USA now holds Conrad's rights and will attempt to sign the experienced defender to a contract.
"Jimmy is a talented, experienced defender who can give this organization a lot both on the field and in the locker room," said Chivas USA Interim General Manager Jose Domene. "We're hopeful that we can agree to a new contract for him and that he'll play an important role for the Red-and-White in 2011."
Conrad, 33, was born in Arcadia, Calif., and attended Temple City High School before spending two years at San Diego State and then UCLA. In 12 MLS seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes (1999-2002) and Kansas City Wizards (2003-2010), Conrad has made 288 appearances (273 starts), scoring 19 goals and adding 10 assists. A five-time MLS All-Star, four-time MLS Best XI pick, and winner of the 2005 MLS Defender of the Year, Conrad was also named MLS Humanitarian of the Year in 2009. With the United States National Team, Conrad has made 28 appearances, scoring one goal, and played in two matches at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Chivas USA will return to training in late January ahead of the 2011 MLS campaign. Season Seats for 2011 are now on sale, with prices remaining at the same low rates as 2010. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com.
