Chivas appoints Fraser as head coach

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA announced on Tuesday that Robin Fraser, a dominating player during his 10-year MLS career and a respected assistant coach in four seasons with Real Salt Lake, has been named as the club's new Head Coach.
Fraser, 44, takes charge immediately and will work with the rest of the club's technical staff to prepare for the MLS SuperDraft on January 13 and the 2011 MLS Regular Season, which Chivas USA kicks off on Saturday, March 19 against Sporting Kansas City at The Home Depot Center.
Chivas USA will present Fraser to media at a press conference on Wednesday at 12:00 noon at The Home Depot Center.
Fraser, has become one of the most widely respected Assistant Coaches in Major League Soccer due to his work in four seasons with Real Salt Lake under Head Coach Jason Kreis. Since he joined RSL in 2007, the club has won an MLS Cup (in 2009) and has set a record for most consecutive home matches without a loss, currently at 25 league games and 33 matches in all competitions.
Fraser, who earned his USSF "A" Coaching License in 1993, also served as the Director of Coaching for youth club Arizona Futbol Club for two years and the head coach of the RSL Arizona Under-17 team following his retirement from Major League Soccer.
In 10 MLS seasons as a player, Fraser established himself as one of the league's top defenders, earning two MLS Defender of the Year awards in 1999 and 2004, as well as earning five appearances on the MLS All-Star Team and MLS Best XI (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004).
The LA Galaxy's first-ever pick in the 1996 MLS Inaugural Player Draft (fourth overall), Fraser played in 260 games (256 starts) with three teams, the Galaxy (1996-2000), Colorado Rapids (2001-2003), and Columbus Crew (2004-2005).
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Fraser attended high school in Miami, Florida, before attending Florida International University. After receiving his United States citizenship in 1986, the central defender made 27 appearances for the U.S. National Team, making his debut on June 1, 1988 and playing his final game for the U.S. on July 6, 2001. Fraser, and his wife Ashley, have two daughters, Danielle and Nicola.
Chivas USA will return to training in late January ahead of the team's 2011 Home Opener on March 19 against Omar Bravo and Sporting Kansas City.
