IRVING, Texas -- Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is battling a quad injury and said he didn't plan on practicing Wednesday.
That could lead some to believe Charles' status for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys is uncertain.
If Charles has a choice, it sounds like he'll be taking the field.
"I'm excited. I don't want to miss this game for the world because everybody from Texas will be watching this game," Charles said during a Wednesday conference call with media members at Valley Ranch. "I think I need to go out there and just show everybody what kind of Texas player I am."
Charles, a former standout at Port Arthur Memorial High School, said he grew up watching Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman but was not a fan of the Cowboys because a rival Pop Warner team was named the Cowboys, "so I didn't like them."
Charles went on to play three seasons at the University of Texas, rushing for 3,328 yards and 36 touchdowns from 2005-2007. The Longhorns won a national title and made two other bowl appearances while Charles was on the roster.
"Playing against the Dallas Cowboys, you really try to show out because you know everybody from home is watching," Charles said. "All your family in Dallas, friends in Dallas, you're just trying to go out there and ball out."
