Chanticleers oust Texas Southern in College Station Regional

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) Andrew Beckwith pitched shutout ball into the ninth inning and second-seeded Coastal Carolina ousted fourth-seeded Texas 4-1 Saturday in the College Station Regional.
The Chanticleers (39-20) advanced to play either top-seeded Texas A&M or third-seeded California in an elimination game on Sunday.
Beckwith (6-4) allowed struck out five over a career-high 8 1-3 innings. After Texas Southern scored, Bobby Holmes relieved with runners on second and third and finished for the save.
Michael Paez homered into a construction zone beyond the left field fence in the third. The Chanticleers added three runs in the fourth on RBI hits by Tyler Chadwick, Jack Curtis and Anthony Marks.
Coastal Coastal won its first NCAA tournament game since defeating Manhattan in 2012.
The Tigers, the Southwestern Athletic Conference champions, were in the tournament for the first time since 2008. They finished at 31-19.
