Cespedes leaves Thursday's game with left quad tightness

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Another day, another player comes out of the game early.
Tigers outfielder Yoenis Cespedes beat out an infield single in the first inning.
He then left Thursday's game with left quad tightness, according to the team, and is day-to-day.
"He just felt tight when he beat the ball out at first base," Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said. "And then when he got to third he said he was really tight in the quad. And rather than taking a chance on him, we pulled him out."
Rand said it was not a problem that Cespedes had been having, just something that happened Thursday.
Rand said it was more precautionary and they'll reevaluate Cespedes Friday morning.
Catcher Alex Avila left Wednesday's game after one inning because of low back tightness.
"Alex was a little bit better today, a little bit looser," Rand said. "We had him worked on, and he's being worked on again tomorrow."
Rand said the back problem is different from the one Avila had before.
"Before it was bothering him flexing," Rand said. "This was bothering him extension. But he's been doing a lot of driving around the state."
Avila is scheduled to play Friday in Kissimmee against the Atlanta Braves but Cespedes is not.
