The Cleveland Cavaliers have been active in trade talks. Since a meeting last week with LeBron James' agent, the Cavs' goal was to clear cap space and lure their former star back home.
It appears the first step to that process is almost done.
Yahoo! Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski and FOX Sports Ohio sources have confirmed reports that the Cavs will send guard Jarrett Jack and swingman Sergey Karasev to the Brooklyn Nets, and center Tyler Zeller to the Boston Celtics in a three-team trade that also involves draft picks and Nets guard Marcus Thornton to the Celtics.
Cleveland will receive the rights to Nets draft picks Ilkan Karaman and Edin Bavcic, Wojnarowski reported.
The deal creates a trade exception for the Cavs and clears $24 million from the salary cap.
"We can create a max contract simply by just waving our hand and making it happen," Cavs general manager David Griffin said on the day after of the NBA Draft in June.
As FOX Sports Ohio reported Monday, the Cavs were on the brink of making a deal "in a couple days." The same source reiterated on Wednesday, "a couple of days is here."
