KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Catherine Vogt, a veteran international open water swimming coach from Southern California, will guide the U.S. open water team for the first time at next year's Olympics.
Vogt oversaw the U.S. team at this summer's world swimming championships in Russia, where the Americans won three medals and had 11 top-10 finishes. She was recently promoted to head assistant coach at USC. Vogt coaches two-time Olympian Haley Anderson.
Her assistant in Rio de Janeiro will be Dave Kelsheimer, who coaches Olympian Jordan Wilimovsky of Malibu, California. Kelsheimer coached the men's open water team at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships and was an assistant at worlds in Russia.
The announcements were made Wednesday at the U.S. Aquatic Sports Convention. The U.S. Olympic Committee has final approval of the coaching staff.
