LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) Four British swimmers won their appeals Friday to have their performances at the 2014 European championships recognized as world records even though they weren't tested for EPO.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor or swimmers Adam Peaty, Francesca Halsall, Jemma Lowe and Chris Walker-Hebborn in their case against swimming world governing body FINA.

The quartet set a world best time of 3:44.02 in the 4x100 mixed medley relay at the European championships in Berlin. Peaty also set a time of 26.62 seconds in the 50-meter breaststroke at the same meet.

The four all passed drug tests after their events. However, FINA decided not to recognize their times as world records because the tests did not include checks for the banned blood-booster EPO.

A three-man CAS panel says the absence of EPO tests should not negate the records. It says the records ''shall now be recognized.''
