Cards' Robinson suspended for failed PED test

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The NFL suspended Cardinals practice-squad wide receiver Gerell Robinson for four games Friday for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. The announcement of the suspension was included on the league's official transactions release Friday, although the release did not specify the infraction.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt pulled the Arizona State product aside in the locker room after Friday’s practice, apparently to deliver the news.

Robinson had 77 catches for 1,397 yards and seven scores during his senior year at ASU in 2011, but he went undrafted and signed as a rookie free agent with Denver, where Sun Devils teammates Brock Osweiler and Omar Bolden had been drafted. The Broncos released him before the start of the regular season, but he signed with the Cardinals the next day.

There is no word on whether the Cardinals will retain him after this infraction. A suspension may not sit well with the coaching staff, particularly for a practice-squad player who is of questionable value to the franchise and could easily be replaced.
