The St. Louis Cardinals are no longer interested in signing starting pitcher Roy Oswalt.
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak told reporters Thursday at spring training that he is pleased with the rotation as it is.
"I never had any confidence we were going to bring him in," Mozeliak said. "I was paying attention to the market and ultimately, I've always stated I've felt comfortable with our five."
Oswalt may not join any team until midseason, according to ESPN.com. Roger Clemens took the same approach in 2006 and '07.
The defending world champions already have a stout starting five in Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright, Jaime Garcia, Kyle Lohse and Jake Westbrook.
"I've always been bullish on our five, and nothing's changed," Mozeliak said.
Oswalt is 159-93 with three All-Star appearances in 11 seasons with Houston and the Philadelphia Phillies.
