ST. LOUIS -- When the Cardinals optioned reliever Michael Blazek to Triple-A Memphis after Sunday's win over the Cubs, an active-roster spot was vacated. The Cardinals filled that spot Tuesday by recalling infielder Jermaine Curtis from Memphis.

Curtis, 26, will be in the dugout when the Cardinals face the Pirates on Tuesday night. This is his second big league stint this season; he was 0 for 2 in three games following his purchase from Memphis on April 26. At Memphis this season he batted .259 (79 for 305) with four home runs and 42 RBIs in 96 games.

Curtis, a fifth-round draft pick out of UCLA by the Cardinals in 2008, led the Double-A Texas League in on-base percentage (.416) last season and was second in batting (.313) while earning All-Star honors at Springfield.
