TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed safety Rashad Johnson to a three-year contract.
Johnson has started 12 games over the last two seasons and took over a
larger role late last year, with veteran safety Adrian Wilson relegated
primarily to the Cards' nickel and dime packages as the season went on.
Wilson was released last week, saving the team about $3 million in
salary-cap space, and Johnson became a priority as the projected starter
at strong safety, alongside veteran Kerry Rhodes.
Johnson (5-feet-11, 204 pounds) became a free agent after spending the past four seasons with the Cardinals. Drafted in the third round out of Alabama in 2009, he's made 14 starts in his four seasons in Arizona, accumulating 126 tackles, three interceptions, seven passes defensed, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and 35 special-teams tackles.
