Newly-retired wide receiver Calvin Johnson will join the cast of the upcoming season of "Dancing With the Stars" that premieres on Sept. 12 on ABC, Entertainment Tonight reports. Johnson will be partnered with professional dancer Lindsay Arnold.

Citing the toll of a myriad of injuries he endured and played through, the 30-year-old decided to hang up his cleats in March after nine NFL seasons and 11,619 receiving yards, leaving him at 27th on the all-time list.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Johnson, also known as "Megatron," will compete against other athletes including Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, swimmer/storyteller Ryan Lochte and Indy race car driver James Hinchcliffe.

Current and former NFL wide receivers have faired quite well on the show. San Francisco 49ers great Jerry Rice finished second in 2006, former Steelers wideout Hines Ward came in first in 2011, former Green Bay Packer Donald Driver won in 2012, and recently Antonio Brown finished in fifth place.
