Cactus roundup: Konerko goes deep twice

WHITE SOX 8, CUBS 3

MESA, Ariz. 
-- Paul Konerko hit two home
runs and Adam Dunn added a two-run shot as the Chicago White Sox beat
the Chicago Cubs 8-3 Thursday.

Dunn and Konerko hit consecutive homers in the sixth inning. They also added singles and Gordon Beckham had a RBI double.

White Sox starter Jose Quintana allowed one earned run and two hits in 3 2-3 innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Sox reliever Leyson Septimo left with two outs and a 2-2 count in the
ninth inning. It was not immediately known what caused him to exit.

Nate Schierholtz hit an RBI triple for the Cubs and minor leaguer Christian Villanueva had a two-run homer.

RANGERS 11, DODGERS 11

GLENDALE, Ariz.
-- Adrian Beltre hit his first home run this spring and the Texas Rangers wound up in an 11-all tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.

Matt Angle hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning off Texas reliever Josh Lindbloom. The game was called after the inning ended.

Beltre hit a two-run homer in the fifth. The star third baseman was slowed at the start of spring training by a problem with his right calf.

Dodgers starting pitcher Chad Billingsley threw three scoreless innings before the Rangers got to him in the fourth with two singles that led to two runs. In 7 1-3 innings over three appearances this spring, he has given up 12 hits.

INDIANS 6, GIANTS 4

GOODYEAR, Ariz.
-- Nick Swisher and Jason Giambi hit back-to-back homers off Heath Hembree, powering the Cleveland Indians to a 6-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday.

Hembree allowed Swisher's third home run of the spring, a three-run shot in the fifth. Giambi hit his first. Ryan Raburn, who leads the Indians with four homers, hit a pair of doubles, one of them with the bases loaded.

Ubaldo Jimenez, who has quickened his delivery for better results, allowed three hits and one run in four innings. Michael Bourn lost Brandon Crawford's fly ball in the sun, letting it fall for a triple. Hunter Pence followed with an RBI single.

Tim Lincecum was scratched because of a blister. Chad Gaudin, trying to earn a job in the bullpen, pitched three scoreless innings.

ATHLETICS 7, MARINERS 3

PHOENIX
-- Chris Young made his debut in left field, Jed Lowrie hit a two-run homer, and the Oakland Athletics beat a Seattle Mariners split-squad 7-3 on Thursday.

Tommy Milone pitched three scoreless innings for the A's, who have won four of their last five.

Robert Andino hit a home run for the Mariners, who had a 10-game winning streak snapped Wednesday. Kendrys Morales added two hits.

Mariners starter Brandon Maurer allowed a run on four hits in three innings.

Milone allowed three hits, walked one and struck out three.

MARINERS 12, ROYALS 2

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Felix Hernandez allowed one run and two hits over two innings in his spring training debut and Stefen Romero homered twice and had seven RBIs and a Seattle Mariners split-squad pounded Kansas City 12-2 on Thursday, ending the Royals' 11-game winning streak.

Hernandez, who signed a seven-year $175 million deal last month, struck out two and threw 33 pitches.

Romero finished 4 for 5. He had a grand slam in the fourth inning and a three-run shot in the ninth.

Casper Wells hit a three-run homer in the eighth. The Mariners have 10 consecutive multi-homer games and top the majors with 29 home runs.

Hisashi Iwakuma allowed one hit in three scoreless innings for the victory.

Royals starter Ervin Santana struck out four in three innings and allowed a run and three hits.

BREWERS 4, DIAMONDBACKS 3

PHOENIX (AP) -- Khris Davis hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, his third straight game with a homer, and the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 on Thursday.

Eric Chavez gave Arizona a 2-0 lead in the third with a two-out home run just to the right of the batters' eye in center field, his first of the spring.

Milwaukee tied it at 2 in the bottom of the inning on Alex Gonzalez's towering homer to the top of the grass berm in left.

The Diamondbacks made it 3-2 in the top of the eighth when Rossmel Perez stole third and scored when Adam Weisenburger's throw sailed into the outfield.

Bo Schultz walked Hunter Morris to begin the eighth and David homered to give the Brewers their first lead.

D-backs starter Wade Miley threw two scoreless innings, walking two and striking out two.

Mark Rogers started and went three innings for the Brewers, allowing two unearned runs and three hits and three walks.

ANGELS 12, PADRES 3

PEORIA, Ariz.
-- C.J. Wilson allowed one run and six hits in three innings in his second spring start and the Los Angeles Angels topped the San Diego Padres 12-3 on Thursday.

Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick homered in the first inning and finished 2 for 3.

Los Angeles catcher Chris Iannetta also homered against Padres starter Freddy Garcia, who gave up three runs and three hits. He has given up 11 runs in 6 2-3 innings this spring.

The Angels also pounded Padres reliever Tommy Layne, scoring four runs in the seventh inning. Travis Witherspoon had a three-run home run.
