Miguel Cabrera is on the mend for 2014.
According to a Detroit Tigers official release, their third baseman underwent "successful core muscle repair surgery" in Philadelphia Tuesday morning.
Cabrera will do physical rehabilitation for the next 6-8 weeks and is expected to be ready for spring training.
Despite a series of injuries, Cabrera, 30, batted .348 with 44 home runs and 137 RBIs, numbers nearly identical to his Triple Crown season in 2012 (.330, 44, 139).
He hit .262 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 11 postseason games.
