Byron Buxton, Andrew Albers earn minor league honors

MINNEAPOLIS -- Add another award to outfielder Byron Buxton's impressive resume.

On Sunday, Buxton was named the Sherry Robertson Award winner as the Minnesota Twins' top minor league player for the 2013 season. Buxton, the No. 2 overall draft pick last year, split his time between Low-A Cedar Rapids and High-A Fort Myers. In 125 total games, Buxton batted .334 with 12 home runs, 18 triples, 19 doubles and 55 stolen bases.

Buxton was named Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year earlier this season. He now follows in the footsteps of players such as Kent Hrbek, David Ortiz, Michael Cuddyer and Joe Mauer as the Twins' minor league player of the year.

Meanwhile, left-hander Andrew Albers received the Jim Rantz Award as the Twins' minor league pitcher of the year for 2013. Albers, who made his big league debut with Minnesota this season, was 11-5 with a 2.86 ERA in 22 starts for Triple-A Rochester. The Saskatchewan native debuted with Minnesota on Aug. 6 and made 10 starts down the stretch, going 2-5 with a 4.05 ERA.
