Bulldogs move into provisional 3rd in National Rugby League

SYDNEY (AP) The Canterbury Bulldogs moved into provisional third place in the National Rugby League on Saturday, beating Newcastle 28-14 to hand the Knights their club-record 14th consecutive loss.
Later Saturday, first-place Cronulla played fourth-place Canberra and second-place Melbourne hosted South Sydney.
Michael Gordon kicked a 78th-minute penalty goal to give Parramatta a 10-9 win Friday over Manly. The Brisbane Broncos led 12-2 early and held on for a 12-8 win over St. George Illawarrra, handing the Dragons their fifth loss in a row.
On Sunday, Jarryd Hayne, who played running back for the San Francisco 49ers for one year before returning to the NRL last week when he signed with the Gold Coast, will come off the bench for the Titans when they host the New Zealand Warriors.
