Buford, Davis selected in D-League draft

Former Ohio State guard William Buford is getting another chance at American pro basketball.
Buford was selected by the Iowa Energy with the No. 11 overall pick in Friday’s NBA D-League draft, making him the lone former Buckeye chosen.
A 6-foot-6 shooting guard, Buford played at Ohio State from 2008-12. He spent last season in the Spanish league.
Meanwhile, former NBA swingman Ricky Davis was selected in the sixth round (No. 93 overall) by the Erie BayHawks. Davis, 34, played for six different NBA teams from 1998-2010, including the Cleveland Cavaliers (2001-03).
The Canton Charge took five players Friday:
• First-rounders Bo Spencer, a 6-1 guard, at No. 13 overall; and Gilbert Brown, a 6-6 forward, one pick later.
• Second-rounder Zane Johnson, a 6-6 guard, at No. 31.
• Lorne Jackson, a 6-2 guard, in the fifth round (No. 82 overall).
• Alejo Rodriguez, a 6-9 forward, in the sixth round (No. 99 overall).
Prior to the draft, the Charge traded their second-round selection (No. 27 overall) to the Energy for guard Robert Hite.
Former Arizona forward Grant Jarrett was selected first overall by the Tulsa 66ers.
Other notables drafted include former NBA forward James Johnson (Rio Grande Valley Vioers, second overall), and former NBA guards Quincy Douby (Sioux Falls Skyforce, third overall) and Salim Stoudamire (Fort Wayne Mad Ants, fifth round).
