The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made official Monday night a trade for Chicago Bears offensive tackle Gabe Carimi. The Bucs traded their 2014 sixth-round pick for the former first-round pick.
Carimi — who’s 6-foot-7, 316 pounds — was the 29th overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft. A Wisconsin product, he has played in 18 games with 16 career starts. Current Tampa Bay offensive line coach Bob Bostad coached Carimi in college.
The lineman chose to train in Arizona instead of attending Chicago's organized team activities, but he was expected to attend the Bears' mandatory minicamp this week. Carimi, who started all 49 games in which he played at Wisconsin, won the Outland Trophy (best interior lineman) as a senior.
Carimi has experience at both right tackle and right guard. He sustained a dislocated right knee cap early in the 2011 campaign that kept him sidelined for all but two games his rookie season.
