TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano expressed his disappointment for Cody Grimm’s arrest early Sunday morning, when the reserve safety was charged with public intoxication in Leesburg, Va.
Speaking after the Bucs’ OTA session Wednesday, Schiano was brief in addressing the topic but said he continues to evaluate the situation.
“I’m disappointed,” Schiano said. “I’m still in the process of gathering. Between myself and (general manager) Mark (Dominik), we’ll do what we think is appropriate.”
Grimm, 26, a native of Fairfax, Va., returned to the region for a wedding and was arrested at a Hampton Inn at 5:30 a.m. According to a Washington Post report, court records show he is scheduled for a July 9 hearing.
Grimm told reporters after the Bucs’ OTA session Wednesday that he made an error in judgment. He was charged with a misdemeanor, but he could face additional punishment because of an earlier public intoxication arrest on March 10 in Christiansburg, Va. He agreed to a $500,000 pay cut in April to preserve his roster spot.
Grimm, a Virginia Tech product, was Tampa Bay’s seventh-round pick in 2010. He has 73 tackles and two interceptions in 23 career games.
