Bucs claim DT Chris Jones, WR Russell Shepard off waivers

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed defensive tackle Chris Jones and wide receiver Russell Shepard off waivers Sunday, in addition to signing seven players to their practice squad.
Jones, who's 6-foot-2, 306 pounds, was the Houston Texans' sixth-round pick, No. 198 overall, last April. A Bowling Green product, he was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection and earned MAC defensive player of the year status as a senior, when he earned 12.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, Shepard, who stands 6-1, 195 pounds, spent the offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles. An LSU product, he signed with the Eagles as a college free agent last April. He played quarterback, running back and wide receiver in Baton Rouge, where he earned 733 rushing yards, 565 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns (five rushing and five receiving).
Those signed to the Bucs' practice squad include cornerback Deveron Carr, offensive lineman Jace Daniels, linebacker Ka'lial Glaud, defensive tackle Matthew Masifilo, tight end Danny Noble, wide receiver Chris Owusu and offensive tackle Mike Remmers.
Also Sunday, wide receiver Tiquan Underwood was released and linebacker Najee Goode waived.
