Browns notes: Still no word on Gordon, training camp

It was on this weekend last year -- Friday afternoon June 7, to be exact -- that the NFL announced a suspension for Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon.
If another suspension for Gordon is coming, as has been reported, no one knows when it might come.
"I'll be consistent in what I've said, and that is until we hear from the league, we're going to be business as usual," Browns coach Mike Pettine said. "At this point, there 's nothing to act on.
"We don't know. I think everybody can sense the frustration but it's a difficult thing. Until it happens, we have a plan in place for all eventualities. We're just like everybody else, still in a holding pattern."
Gordon has been participating in organized team activity practices. The Browns wrap the formal part of their offseason with a mandatory minicamp next week.
Pettine said the Browns expect to come out of the offseason with no injuries that will linger into training camp. They've added depth to the receiving corps via free agency and have Travis Benjamin and Charles Johnson coming off ACL injuries, but there's just no replacing Gordon.
The league has announced three suspensions in the last week, most notably a yearlong suspension for Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington for a level three violation of the league's substance abuse policy.
HOLDING PATTERN, PART II: Browns president Alec Scheiner spoke to the media this week at the team's rookie visit to a local elementary school, saying nothing is finalized when it comes to training camp this year and into the future.
Pettine had said the team explored moving camp off-site, something he's accustomed to, but couldn't work anything out for this season.
The Associated Press reported last week that the Browns will implement a pre-registration system to ensure fans coming to the team's Berea headquarters for camp will know they can get in. The arrival of Johnny Manziel has team expecting record crowds.
"It's about making sure that people can get into training camp that come from different cities and from different states," Scheiner said. "We don't know the mechanics of it yet but we do know there will be a signup online."
Scheiner gave more non-answers than answers. On the subject of moving camp off-site this year for a day or two or the availability of First Energy Stadium for a downtown practice as has been done in prior years, he said stadium renovations are on schedule and the team would have an update in a couple of weeks.
"We have no finalized plans," he said. "We'll look at everything."
