Von Miller thinks the offseason is for the birds.

Yardbirds, that is.

Miller, the Broncos linebacker, told USA Today he bought 38 chickens for his eight-acre property near Dallas with the intention of becoming a chicken magnate.

"Hopefully I'll have some chicken tenders for you guys," Miller told reporters.

Miller isn't just winging it. He majored in poultry science at Texas A&M and has long had an interest in the poultry industry.

By starting his chicken operation now, he hopes to have a leg up on the competition by the time he retires from the NFL.

"I really wanted to get to the fundamentals, getting back to raising chicks," Miller said. "I raised chicks in college in class and stuff. Now it's a project for me to do it on my own and see where I go with it. I'm pretty excited about it."

Lest anyone think he's getting too cooped up dealing with chickens, remember that Miller has  recorded 30 sacks in two seasons with the Broncos. Quarterbacks will still be walking on eggshells around him this fall.
