Pitcher Claudio Vargas retired early last summer after a stint with the Colorado Rockies Triple-A affiliate didn't go the way he had hoped. The 33-year-old had posted an 11.08 ERA before leaving the game for good.
But on Wednesday, the company that represents Vargas, Metis Sports Management, announced via Twitter that he'll be making a comeback this season with a familiar organization: the Milwaukee Brewers.
Vargas' most recent major league appearance came with the Brewers in 2010, when he posted a 7.32 ERA in 17 relief outings. He also spent most of 2009 in Milwaukee as a reliever. Pending a physical, Vargas is expected to join Triple-A Nashville soon as a starting pitcher.
Before spending 2008 with the Mets, Vargas was a starter with the Brewers in 2007, posting an 11-6 record and 5.09 ERA in 23 games at the back of the team's five-man rotation.
