Needing reinforcements in the bullpen after Sunday's 14-inning game, the Milwaukee Brewers optioned right-hander Rob Wooten to Triple-A Nashville and recalled right-hander Alfredo Figaro.
Figaro has a 5.00 ERA in nine innings for Nashville this season, with all five of the earned runs against him coming over two of his seven outings.
The 29-year-old appeared in 33 games and made five starts for the Brewers in 2013, posting a 3-3 record with a 4.14 ERA. Figaro made the team out of spring training last season as a non-roster invitee, impressing the club with his mid-90's fastball.
Figaro was sent to Triple-A in August to further develop his slider and changeup, as the lack of consistency from his off-speed pitches have held him back throughout his career.
Wooten was recalled on April 13 when Brandon Kintzler went on the 15-day disabled list with a minor strain in his right rotator cuff. He pitched in four games for the Brewers since, allowing four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings (8.31 ERA).
The Brewers used Wooten three times in the past four days, including pitching him for a total of 3 1/3 innings on Saturday and Sunday. Wooten took the loss in Thursday's series opener in Pittsburgh, allowing three earned runs while recording just one out in the sixth inning.
Wooten allowed an RBI double to Andrew McCutchen in Saturday's victory over the Pirates, but was key to Milwaukee winning Sunday's 14-inning affair. He worked a perfect 10th and 11th inning, striking out two.
