Brewers place Pina on 10-day DL, recall Nottingham from Triple-A
The Milwaukee Brewers placed catcher Manny Pina on the 10-day disabled list and recalled catcher Jacob Nottingham from Triple-A Colorado Springs, the team announced Monday.
Milwaukee also announced reliever J.J. Hoover, who was designated for assignment April 11, has elected free agency.
Pina has been hampered by a right calf strain and hasn’t played since a 5-3 loss to St. Louis April 10. In 10 games this season, Pina owns a .219/.324/.344 slash, three RBI and one homer.
With Stephen Vogt still recovering from a right shoulder strain, Milwaukee's catching duties have been handed over to Jett Bandy and Nottingham. Nottingham, a sixth-round pick by Houston in 2013, recorded a .209/.326/.369 slash with Double-A Biloxi last season in 101 games. He’s played eight contests with Triple-A Colorado Springs this season and has tallied eight hits, four RBI and two walks in 27 at-bats.
Nottingham has yet to make his MLB debut.
Milwaukee signed Hoover to a minor-league deal in the offseason. The 30-year-old allowed four hits and three earned runs in 1 1/3 innings (two appearances) with the Crew this season.
