Brewers place Gomez on DL, recall Rogers

The Brewers have placed center fielder Carlos Gomez on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain and, correspondingly, recalled utilityman Jason Rogers from Triple-A Colorado Springs. The team announced the moves Friday morning.
The move to put Gomez on the DL is retroactive to April 16, when the Brewers lost 4-0 to St. Louis -- the first game of the season in which Gomez did not play. The previous night, Gomez went 0-for-5 against the Cardinals and was lifted for a pinch-runner in the ninth inning. The speedy leadoff hitter is batting just .235 with one home run and six RBI this season. He has yet to steal a base, being caught once, after swiping 34 last year.
Rogers is batting .360 with two home runs and seven RBI in six games for Colorado Springs. In eight September games last year with the Brewers, Rogers had one hit in nine at-bats.
Milwaukee also announced that relief pitcher Jim Henderson will begin a rehab assignment with Class-A Brevard County on Friday night. The right-hander, who appeared in just 14 games last year due to injury, had been on the DL with right shoulder inflammation.
