Breaking down the Rangers vs. Angels series

WHAT WENT RIGHT
The three starters in the series pitched well enough to get wins as Wandy Rodriguez, Colby Lewis and Nick Martinez each had solid starts. The trio combined for three earned runs allowed in 16 innings of work but all they got out of it was a 0-1 record with Lewis picking up the loss Saturday. Nick Martinez lowered his ERA to 0.35 with six scoreless innings Sunday.
Shortstop Elvis Andrus appears to be breaking free from his miserable start. Andrus had four hits in the series and moved his average over the .200 mark as he's now hitting .211. In Sunday's 5-4 win in 11 innings he scored a run and walked twice, including the second intentional walk of his career.
First baseman Prince Fielder continues to get on base. He had hits in all three games and had an RBI in Friday's game. Fielder is now batting .361 and finished the eight game road trip with six RBI.
The Rangers showed they could rally in Sunday's win. The Rangers had been 0-9 when trailing after eight innings this season but got into the win column thanks to an RBI single from Mitch Moreland in the ninth inning that pushed the game to extras. Two runs in the 11th, keyed by a Leonys Martin homer, proved to be the difference.
WHAT WENT WRONG
At some point the offensive game of right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is going to bottom out. After going hitless in the two-game series in Arizona he went 0-8 against the Angels and is now hitting a woeful .106. He isn't getting it done with the glove either as he committed an error in right Sunday.
The bullpen didn't do much to help the starters out. It started with Friday's opener as rookie Keone Kela gave up a two-run homer to David Freese that ended up being the game winner in the 3-2 Texas loss. The bullpen couldn't make the 2-0 lead for Nick Martinez stand up Sunday either, allowing three runs after Martinez departed and taking away a chance at a win for him.
The offense as a whole did little in the series, scoring a total of eight runs. The Rangers have the lowest batting average in the majors and are off to their worst start average wise since the 1972 season.
WHAT'S NEXT
Nelson Cruz and the Mariners come into town as the Rangers open a three-game series against the Mariners to start a six-game homestand. The early part of the homestand will likely be dominated by off-the-field news surrounding Josh Hamilton as a press conference will likely follow once his trade from the Angels is official.
Unfortunately for the Rangers they'll face Felix Hernandez in the final game of the Seattle series.
